Canvas work panel in cross stitch and extensive beading, depicting water birds and lotus flowers in a marshy setting.
The donor’s mother, Gwendoline Winifred Luke, completed the embroidery. Gwendoline was born on the 5th December 1897, the daughter of William Luke and Harriett Eliza Susannah Alix nee Hill, the daughter of Charles Hill. The panel was begun by either Gwendoline’s mother, Harriett or by her grandmother, Eliza Georgina Jane. Charles Hill and his family are depicted in the painting “The artist and his family” circa 1869 in the Art Gallery of South Australia. South Australia, 19th Century (mid) 2007.043 donated |
