Research
Browse these catalogues online by subject / technique or key in search terms to locate library items by author, title or subject and museum items by type of object, origin, historical period or technique. Library Catalogue Museum Catalogues | ResearchLibrary Catalogues
The following printed catalogues are available on the loans desk in the library. • Title Catalogue • Author Catalogue • Subject Catalogue These catalogues are reprinted annually, usually in May. The online catalogue is updated several times a year. The latest additions to the collection are published in the Guild's monthly Review. Once you find the item you want, make a note of the call number. Each item has a unique call number. This is the key to finding an item on the shelves. See an example below. The library's books are arranged on the shelves in alpha-numeric order. First look for the letter(s) denoting the subject, then the 4-digit accession number and lastly the copy number. You may just wish to browse the shelves. Take a look at the Library Classification as this is the key to the overall arrangement of the books. Call Numbers An example of a call number is D 1345 C1 where: D = Counted Thread Work 1345 = the book's accession number C1 = the book's copy number (there are multiple copies of many books in the collection) This call number will appear on a label on the base of the spine of each book as follows: D 1345 C1 Journal Indexes It is also possible to research online the indexes to and content of some of the library's journals. Printed indexes are usually bound with the journals. Links Use these links to access other guilds and societies as well as a variety of other embroidery related sites. |
