Antique Needlecase

The needle book has been charted from an item in the collection of the Museum of the Embroiderers’ Guild SA Inc.

“The perforated card (Bristol Board) covers of the original needle book have been embroidered in cross stitch in silks of soft tan and green colours with repeat patterns including flowers on the front and acorns on the back. The covers are lined with pale turquoise moiré silk. The edges and back are bound with a deeper turquoise silk ribbon which is also used as ties. The four flannel pages have been cut with decorative scalloped edges and a pattern of small round holes. Eleven needles are still in place.

The needle book came from the estate of Miss Natalie Jeffs who died 22ndMarch 1987 aged 81. It was formerly the property of her mother, Sarah, wife of Will Jeffs of Kapunda. Sarah Ann was born on the 22nd November 1863 at Victoria Township, the daughter of William Walkington Slight and Jan Chapel Tratten. On March 31st 1902, she married William Jeffs at Kapunda.”

The original needle book was worked on 18 count Perforated Paper.
This count is not available today. The needle book you will make is not the same size as the original, and the design has had to be adapted to suit the different count Perforated paper.

The instructions only cost $10 Australian.
The kit including the chart/instructions and everything needed to complete the case (the purchaser only needs to supply sewing thread to match the lining)
is $20 Australian.

Plus postage and handling.

Band Sampler
(Kit or Instructions Only)

Early in 2013 two of our talented members were looking through the latest museum exhibition and discussing the various items on display when an idea for a sampler occurred to them. These ladies, after examining many embroideries in the collection and spending many hours on trialling patterns, threads and colours, have produced a beautiful and unique band sampler. This sampler, on display at the Guild headquarters, gives a variety of counted stitch and cutwork bands with clear detailed  instructions making it  suitable for embroiderers of all levels.

Worked on 32 Count Permin “White Chocolate” linen it has a finished size of 11cm x 45cm and uses DMC stranded cotton and Perle cottons. It is on sale from the office and all profits are kept by the Guild.
We are very fortunate to have such talented people in the Guild willing to share their skills and time so a very big thank you to Christine Bishop and Carol Young.

If you are looking for a gift for a friend or a lovely sampler to do during this hot weather came into the Guild or ring Chris in the office and she will post it to you. It is very reasonable priced and available as a chart or complete kit.

The Chart/instructions only cost $25 Australian.
The kit of chart/instructions, linen and threads is $60 Australian.

Plus postage and handling.
