Birds of a Feather - Current Exhibition (ends December 2010)
The following are examples of embroideries featuring birds, in the current exhibition.
'Toran' - Door Hanging [India]
In India, the 'toran' is hung above the door to welcome and protect all who enter. Peacocks, a green parrot and other birds are depicted inn the overall design. The peacock is the national bird of India, associated with 'Saraswati', the goddess of wisdom, music, poetry and the arts and representative of Happiness, love and fertility.
